Anneke van Giersbergen got introduced to heavy music by her older brother and it immediately felt like coming home for the young singer. To mark Metallica’s 40-year anniversary, Dutch talk show ‘M’ asked Anneke to sing ‘Nothing Else Matters’ accompanied by a string quartet. Ruud Peeters created a beautiful arrangement, sparking the idea for a new collaboration. The anthems of Iron Maiden, the melodic rock of Foreigner, the hits of Guns ‘N Roses, the classics of Black Sabbath, and of course, her personal heroes Mastodon – she sings them all in beautifully arranged semi-classic versions.
