With ‘Memphis Blues & Soul,’ the Rob Mostert Hammond Group takes you on a journey back to vibrant southern states of the US, to Memphis Tennessee. This is the home of the blues and the city where Robert Johnson reputedly sold his soul to the devil at the crossroads of Highways 61 and 49 in exchange for his virtuosity on the guitar.

Memphis is where B.B. King established his own club on the famous Beale Street, and where Al Green preaches soul music in his own gospel church. It's home to Elvis's Graceland, the renowned Gibson Guitar Factory, and the legendary labels Sun Records and Stax Records where it all began. Sun Records is the studio where Elvis recorded his first single ‘That's All Right Mama,’ followed by many other songs before he switched to major label RCA in 1955. Here’s where icons like Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, and Jerry Lee Lewis recorded their hit albums.

Memphis is also the city where Martin Luther King was assassinated, and home to the National Museum of Civil Rights, which attracts thousands of visitors every year. Rob Mostert himself performed here in 2012 and 2014, at well-known venues such as BB King's Club, New Daisy's Theatre, and Alfred's. He had jam sessions on the street with local blues heroes and recorded at the world-famous Sun Studio, where time has stood still, and everything is exactly the same as when Elvis was last here.

Memphis has left a lasting impression on Mostert and his musicians because of the warm reception by its people, its buildings, its vibe, its history, and the intense passion with which musicians play their music. It was clear from the outset that ‘Memphis Blues & Soul’ was a project that just had to come about.

"Rob Mostert is one of the best Hammond organists in the Netherlands. He has a distinctive style and is known for his habit of playing the bass pedals of his Hammond organ barefoot. He has also worked with legendary jazz sound engineer Rudy van Gelder and is the driving force behind the Rob Mostert Hammond Group.” De Wereld Draait Door

"A Hammond has so many stories to tell. I want to share those stories with the audience. And I understand why organs were first used in church, as hearing this instrument literally touches your soul." - Rob Mostert
